It was an extraordinary turn of events on Sunday for Bhuvneshwar Kumar against Ireland as he stunned the cricketing world by bowling a delivery at 208 kmph. Technically it showed to have been the fastest delivery in the history of cricket but was later confirmed as a speed gun error. The incident raised eyebrows as Shoiab Akhtar’s long-standing record of 161 kmph was left behind, only to be corrected by the error-prone machine.
The incident happened in the first over of the match as Bhuvneshwar was handed over the ball by stand-in skipper Hardik Pandya. The second ball of the first over was deemed to have crossed 208 kmph and set a new record for the fastest ball in the cricketing history. However, it was later found out that the machine monitoring the ball was mistracking and miscalculating the ball seam.
The internet then exploded to show that Bhuvneshwar Kumar had temporarily crossed paths with Shoaib Akhtar. Earlier another one of Bhuvneshwar’s deliveries was deemed to have crossed 200 kmph, but that too was an error which. Thousands of fans sent screenshots of the scorecard and ball speed and questioned Shoaib Akhtar’s record.

While Umran Malik was supposed to break the bowling records it was his partner in crime Bhuvneshwar who was surfacing with the record. Despite on debut and impressing in the IPL 2022, Umran was only allowed to bowl just one over while Bhuvneshwar completed his quota of three overs.
The match was curtailed by rain as 12 overs per side were allotted with two bowlers to bowl three and three bowlers to bowl a maximum of two overs. Ireland managed to get over the 100-run mark in the match and made sure they put up a respectable total.

India though had other plans as Deepak Hooda guided his team home with an unbeaten 47. Courtesy of the win India took a 1-0 lead in the series and will now try to seal the deal with another win on Tuesday. A win for India will see them high on confidence in the upcoming England tour. Bhuvneshwar on the flip side will be eager to break the record, but without the help of speed gun error.
