Former captain Rahul Dravid has recently been appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. Dravid is going to take over as the head coach of Team India from November 17 in the T20 series against New Zealand. He has also reached Jaipur for this, where India has to play the first T20 match with New Zealand. Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has told that on whose behest he has appointed Dravid as the coach of the Indian team. Dravid will be the head coach of the Indian team for the next two years.

BCCI President Ganguly, while replying to a question during the 40th Sharjah International Book Fair, jokingly said that he appointed the former captain as the head coach of the Indian team at the behest of Dravid’s son. Ganguly was asked if he had played any role in making Dravid the coach of the Indian team. On this, Ganguly jokingly said that at the behest of Rahul Dravid’s son, he persuaded Dravid to become the coach.

Ganguly said, ‘I got a phone call from his son, in which he told me that father treats him strictly and now he needs to be taken away from us. So I called Rahul Dravid and said that now is your time to join the national team. However, later Ganguly told the truth that they both grew up together and they spent a lot of time together during their playing days.

Dravid has mentioned his roadmap after becoming the coach and how he wants to carry forward the legacy of former coach Ravi Shastri. Dravid had said, “It is an honor for me to be appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team and I am really excited about this role. The team has performed extremely well under Shastri and I look forward to working with the team to take this forward.
