At Anfield there was a protagonist – Liverpool 1-0 Aston Villa

Liverpool vs Aston Villa

In the game that saw the return of Steven Gerrard – Liverpool’s eternal idol – to Anfield Road, but as Aston Villa’s coach, his team fell to the Red Devils 1-0. The locals were widely superior and the score could have been a win. It would have been possible if the Villans didn’t have the -probably- best Premier League goalkeeper on their goal. Emiliano Martínez needs the opportunity under the three suits of a team that is on a world level because he is able to avoid clear goal plays.

Liverpool attacked superbly in Liverpool vs Aston Villa and defeated their team to more than 20 goal situations. The intensity was overwhelming. Key point in Joel Matip, placing the defense in front of the middle of the field and receiving every long ball that Aston Villa tried. The Anfield forwards did not have a great encounter: both Sadio Mané and Mo Salah squandered big chances. The Egyptian scored the only goal of the night executing a penalty with absolute quality. Pride that he lacked to define more than one situation that could have given Liverpool a great advantage.

On the Villa side, Steven Gerrard remembered late that he should attack to score at least one goal. His team spent the whole game lying in their half of the court. Too close to the Martinez area. They made time even in absurd situations in order to scratch at least one draw, but the game took its toll and those of Jurgen Klopp only had to wait for football to decide the result.

Liverpool crossed out a full five victories in a row in the Premier, they are still the highest-scoring team and they do not lose track of Manchester City. It is only one point away and the applicants must win every game. Mo Salah didn’t have a great game, but he has reached 30 direct appearances – goals and assists – so far this season. Not even half of it has been fulfilled and we can already say that he will aspire to the Ballon d’Or. The villains must continue on the path of resurrection that Gerrard seemed to have if they hope to fight for a qualification to Europe.
