The former legendary player of the Indian cricket team, Virender Sehwag, who also resembled to be the copy of the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar in his time, revealed some interesting moments from his past and how the legendary leg spinner and Indian test team captain, Anil Kumble helped him revive his career.
While speaking to the sports news channel, Sports18, and their famous program “Homes of Heroes”Sehwag said, his form during 2007 was not that good and he wasn’t anymore wanted by the selectors but during the same year, something happened that Sehwag cannot forget in his life.
The former batsman after being dropped from the India Test squad in early 2007 revealed, how returning in the playing XI wasn’t easy and how he was given a duty by the legendary test captain Anil Kumble a task to make a comeback.
Sehwag recall’s Anil Kumble saying,
If you score 50 in this match, you will be selected for the game in Perth,“You will not be removed from the side all the time as I am the Test squad skipper”

What was then, Sehwag did what he was supposed to but said, it was his toughest 60 runs because of the faith Anil Bhai put on him and didn’t want anybody to question him that why he (Kumble) brought him to Australia and so on. And to relieve himself from that stress, Sehwag said that he kept on conversing with the on-field umpire and whistled some of his favorite songs. It helped him subside the stress he was going through, Sehwag said.
Sehwag also shared some light from the infamous Monkey gate scandal where the two cricketers, Harbhajan Singh and Andrew Symonds engaged in a heated argument. The deceased Australian player Andrew Symonds posted a compliant against Singh for passing racial comments on him, which almost costed Singh his career; But thanks to then captain Anil Kumble, who’s interference helped Harbhajan to wriggle out from the situation without harm.
“If Anil Bhai had not been the captain, the tour would have discontinued, and probably Harbhajan Singh’s career would have ended too,”
Anil Kumble has been a legendary cricketer for the Indian team in the past, and currently is associated with the Punjab Kings, as their coach, although the team got disqualified in the TATA IPL 2022 but played extremely well under the leadership of the young Mayank Agrawal.
