Any Sort Of Fight Is Wrong: Olympic Medallist Bajrang Punia On Satender Malik Assaulting Referee

Key Highlights

  • Any sort of Fight is wrong is what Bajrang Punia says
  • Bajrag Punia, the bronze medallist statement comes after Satendar Malik assaulted referee
  • Punia, after his bronze medal victory in 2018 is all set and qualified for his third commonwealthCommonwealth Games games
  • The postponing of the Common wealth games in China as a player was sad but as humanitarian grounds nothing is much more than the safety of people is what Punia says.

Bajraj Punia, a 2018 bronze medallist of the commonwealth games recently heard about the assault of Jagbir Singh by Satender Malik at the KD Jadhav Hall that too in front of the wrestling federation of Indian president Brij bhushan Sharan Singh. The ugly scene took place after the wrestler lost his fight in the finals in the freestyle 125kg category. However, in the video shared the referee was seen slapping the athlete first but WFI imposed life time ban on the player.

After the fight was over, the referee was asked about the incident and he said,

“I was in charge of the mat & when the game had come under suspicious circumstances the main judge asked me to watch the video & give a decision on the basis of that. After I announced the decision, the wrestler (Satender Malik) started to fight & attacked me: Referee Jagbir Singh”

After hearing such news Bajender Punia said that any kind of fight is wrong. Punia, however, didn’t witness the fight taking place as his bout was over and only heard about it. He said,

“I could not see any fight as my bout was over and I came out and I have only heard about it. Whatever it is any sort of fight is wrong but we can’t say who is accused and who is not accused. Those who were there can say what happened,”

Well apart from the pathetic incident above, from Punia’s end this are positive as he is all set for journey towards gold medal. In 2018, Punia after winning bronze in the 65kg men’s category, the athlete got qualified for this year’s (2022) common wealth games (CWG). But unfortunately, due to COVID breakout in China has led the postponing of games further.

When asked Punia about it, he said,

“We will prepare hard. It is my third Commonwealth Games. We will try to win a gold medal for the country and for that we will work hard,”

He further added,

“As a player I am sad but as a human, it is good as cases in China are very high. So, for that, we will work harder for one more year but the safety of people is more important. Humanity wise also unless we are safe, we do not have anything because games keep happening every year, “

In total six wrestlers have been selected for CWG 2022 and seems petrifying. Punia on the upcoming said, that all players are prepared as per seen in the trials.

“We are hoping that this time we perform even better in the Commonwealth Games because in these Games we have always performed well and we hope to do even better in the future,”

Unlike Cricket, Wrestling may not be that famous or prevalent in our country but every big start from small and what are wrestlers are trying to achieve today is going to be remembered in the future as pillar stones.

We wish the Six wrestlers all the best!!
