Ajax is on fire: after the Overmars case, now another one has come to light. NRC uncovered a new alleged case of sexual harassment at the club, weeks after the dismissal of the former Dutch player – PlayOn99 News

By Facundo Di Bona (@facudibona).

The new person involved is Winston Bogarde, also a 51-year-old former player, who works at the club as first assistant to the first team.

According to the aforementioned Dutch media, he would have been reported in 2020. However, the club called the matter a “private matter” and he continued to work for the club.

The facts are clear: an Ajax worker reported that she was harassed through messages by Bogarde and continued to serve as assistant coach Erik ten Hag.

The fact was investigated by an outside agency that determined:

“Bogarde actively contributed to a pattern of interaction that was destructive to the complainant. With little respect and after a while in a verbally aggressive manner”

It was further stated that he “ignored objections and counter objections” from the woman. A situation that caused her psychological damage that was later diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Even so, and despite the fact that the facts have been proven through this external investigation, Ajax did not take action. Bogarde, who does not want to comment on the matter, remains in his job.

A few weeks ago, the case of Marc Overmars came to light and, after being denounced for harassment and sending images, he publicly apologized and was removed from his job.

Unlike the previous case which happened inside the club and all those involved were Ajax employees, Bogarde engaged in sexual harassment with a person who was not connected to Ajax.

The pattern repeats itself within the club: an employee, a former player with power, acts in unpleasant ways and Ajax tries to turn a blind eye until it becomes public knowledge.

On the Bogarde case, the club communicated:

“It is true that Ajax received an anonymous complaint on October 1, 2020 about the misbehavior of an Ajax employee. The club immediately took action. The report was independently investigated by two external bodies and the conclusion was that this matter should be considered private and it was determined that no further action would be taken”
